Quick DIY Gift Bag

Are you out of gift bags or want to personalize something special? This pull-string gift bag is one of the QUICKEST makes that I have done. Literally about 5 mins from start to finish.

Materials Needed:

Fabric – I used various sizes, but you want to cut your fabric into a rectangle. **Size used in this example was 13” x 10”

Thread

Ribbon - *Enough to go the circumference of your bag top + extra to make the bow. **Length used in my example was roughly 30”

Safety pin

Optional: Pins or binding clips

The Process:

Step 1: With the right side of the fabric facing downwards, fold a 1” flap along the longer edge of your fabric rectangle and press.

Step 2: Sew the flap down lengthwise with a ¼” seam allowance (or less depending on how wide your ribbon is) and back stitch at the start and finish.

Step 3: Fold in half lengthwise and sew along the side and bottom.

**TWO things to note on this step**

1—if you want your bag to tie at the side, then sew along the bottom and side edges to enclose the bag, but if you want a center ribbon bow (see differences below) then sew along the side first, then open and press with the seam down the middle and sew along the bottom to center your ribbon.

2 DO NOT start sewing at the top. You want to leave an opening for your ribbon, so begin your sewing where the flap stitch begins. (See below)

Step 4: Fold right-side out and using a pen if needed to get your corners crisp. Then press lightly.

Step 5: Attach the safety pin to one end of your ribbon. Use the safety pin to help push/guide the ribbon through the flap of the bag.

Step 6: **Optional** I like to lightly burn the ends of my ribbon to reduce fray

Tie your bow and you’re done! It’s that simple!

Fabrics used for this project are from the Let’s Eat Cake collection by Blank Quilting Co.
